Debbie Duncan returns to the Capri

The Capri Theater's "Legends" series wraps up with a one-night performance by Debbie Duncan on Friday, June 4 at 7 p.m. Her selections from The Great American Songbook will focus on Johnny Mercer, composer and lyricist for greats like Harold Arlen and Henry Mancini.
"Debbie Duncan is the good luck charm for the Capri," says Dennis Spears, artistic director for the Legends series. "She's been part of the Legends series every year, including the first concert after our renovation last spring."
"I have to credit Dennis Spears for getting me into the Capri and letting me know what was going on," Duncan says. "I just love the theater. It's so warm. The acoustics are amazing. It's a theater, but it has this kind of homey vibe to it. The Capri has a phenomenal sound system, and I'm working one on one with the sound designer to get it just the way I want...Every time you perform there, you're creating a bit of history."
Duncan says Mercer is appealing because he was also a singer who performed with the Benny Goodman and Paul Whitman orchestras. "That has a little bit to do with his take on how he writes lyrics," she notes. Among his best-known lyrics are Blues in the Night and That Old Black Magic, with music by Harold Arlen, and Moon River with Henry Mancini.
