Jef Cierniak Quartet at the Historic Capri Theater
03/01/2010
On Saturday, March 6 enjoy a rare evening that brings together some of the most renowned Twin Cities improvisational giants to perform and record the compositions of world-wise guitarist Jef Cierniak. Jef has finally moved back to Minneapolis and will explode back into the musical scene with this great show. Fondly remembered for his masterful work with the ‘80s band Cats Under the Stars, Jef spent the last 25 years traveling, living and performing throughout the farthest reaches of the globe; playing soca and calypso in the Caribbean, acid jazz in Prague, blues throughout Southeast Asia, Latin jazz in Central America, and touring with greats such as Melvin Seals (The Jerry Garcia Band) and the late Vince Welnick (The Tubes, Todd Rundgren, Grateful Dead). Jef's music is a cross-pollination of all the rhythms and styles of these experiences.
Joining Jef are long-time collaborators Al Oikari (Big Wu /Cats Under the Stars) on keyboards and concert grand piano, and Jim Anton (Jonny Lang /Eight Head /Hot Pork Sandwich) on massive bass sounds. Filling out the poly-rhythms is the ever-in-demand JT Bates (Fat Kid Wednesdays /Face Candy) on drum kit.
Be part of the recorded audience in one of the Twin cities' most intimate settings, the Historic Capri Theater (2027 West Broadway) touting its spectacular acoustics and lighting. A show not to be missed! Doors open at 7 p.m.; showtime 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door only.
