The Bourbones with Brothers Curtis at the Capri
By: Jeanne Fish 05/01/2010
For the grand finale of the Great Streets Concert Series, Northside Arts Collective (NAC) presents The Bourbones, with Brothers Curtis, for an evening of smokin' blues at the Historic Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway, on Saturday, May 15. It is also a FUNraiser to raise capital for Northside Arts Collective.
The Bourbones is three piece band from the Twin Cities fronted by guitarist Mike Kimmel, playing raw Delta Blues in the old style of Robert Johnson, Son House and Blind Lemon Jefferson. Touring regularly in the south, they were the ‘hot pick' in the Kansas City Blues News, and had repeat appearances at the 7th and 8th annual Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi - where blues was born. "... (I've) not heard tone like that since the sound of ‘Tone King' - Blues Historian, Tom Gary.
Opening the night, Curtis Marlatt brings his Brothers Curtis four-piece act to the stage, featuring the other Curtis Blake on harmonica. A blues guitar veteran of 40 years, Marlatt has been the guitar slinger for such Blues luminaries as Delbert McClinton, Marcia Ball, Mojo Buford, and the late Homesick James. "...Curtis Marlatt is the best slide guitarist in the South next to Duane Allman". - Cream Magazine
