CAPTIONS: Urban Cadence.
Morris Wilson.
The Northside Arts Collective (NAC) presents Urban Cadence with Morris Wilson for an evening of jazz, R&B and funk at the Historic Capri Theater on Saturday, April 10. NAC member Jeff Keys brings back to the Capri Theater the transcendental jazz sounds of Urban Cadence. Together since 2006, Urban Cadence features Jeff on trumpet and keyboards, drummer Joe Dowdall, Keith Nance on saxophones and flute, keyboardist Stan O'Daffer, and Darrell Pridgen on electric bass. They will be joined with jazz vocalist Maureen Santiago. With a wide range of influences and dynamics, Urban Cadence promises to provide smooth grooves as well as lively, in-your-face funk. Urban Cadence has been very popular on the Northside, appearing at FLOW and Music in the Heart of Victory concerts.
Opening the evening is the legendary Minneapolis saxophonist Morris Wilson, whose music career was launched in 1957 with his encounter with John Coltrane while John was on tour with the Miles Davis Sextet. Morris' career highlights include being a member of the Muddy Water Blues Band, touring with the Ike and Tiny Turner Revue, and working with the Temptations. Ultimately, Morris returned to Minneapolis to settle back into the local music scene, work with younger aspiring artists, and record great albums such as One for Morris: the Funk-a-Fusion Years, and Tribute to Trane.
