Workhouse Season Tickets on sale now, exciting plans announced

Workhouse Theatre Company (WTC) launches its sixth full season with a special event in September and a full production schedule starting in October, but it's not too early to get in on the excitement.

Flex Passes are now on sale for a season that includes another Pulitzer Prize-winning drama (Rabbit Hole October 7-23); a holiday show just for grownups (The Eight: Reindeer Monologues December 3-18); Workhouse's first-ever musical (You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown February 24-March 11, 2012); a searing international drama (Copenhagen April 27-May 13, 2012); and WTC's second annual Pride Production-a Twin Cities premiere of a comedy that's sweeping the nation (Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenaged Blockhead June 22-July 8, 2012)!

WTC Artistic Director Cristopher Tibbetts says, "One of the things patrons have told us they like most about Workhouse Theatre Company productions is our value. You can preserve that value by ordering a Flex Pass." Beginning in October, WTC prices online and at-the-door will increase, so patrons can save money while enjoying great theatre with the Flex Pass. Tibbetts says, "One pass will allow you to see all five mainstage shows this season, one show five times (they're that good!), or any combination. Bring a friend to a show, and have three more punches left. Bring four friends to a show. Buy two passes and have a date for each show!  You choose how you want to use them, they're flexible." In addition to the mainstage programming, Tibbetts promises increased special events for the coming season. The first of these events is coming soon. On Sunday, September 11, WTC commemorates the 10th anniversary of Patriot Day with a reading of The Guys by Anne Nelson. This is a revival of WTC's first-ever reading, originally staged in 2007. Based on a true story, The Guys is set in New York City less than two weeks after the September 11th attacks.  An editor named Joan receives an unexpected phone call on behalf of Nick, a fire captain who has lost most of his men in the 9/11 attack. He's looking for a writer to help him with the eulogies he must present at their memorial services. As they make their way through the emotional landscape of grief, they draw on humor, tango, the appreciation of craft in all its forms-and the enduring bonds of common humanity. This reading is directed by WTC's frequent stage manager Alissa Blaeser, and features Muriel Bonertz (Jessie in WTC's 2008 production of ‘night, Mother) and David Coral.  The reading begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 11 at The Warren-An Artist Habitat, 4400 Osseo Road.  The event is free, and all are welcome.

Make your plans now for WTC's season-opener, the engrossing, Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by Victory resident and frequent WTC director Diane Mountford. Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down, and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart.  Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back to the light of day. The production features Dustin Bronson, Victory resident Abby DeSanto, Jane Hammill, Tamara Philbrick, and Ben Share.  Individual tickets will go on sale in early September. Rabbit Hole runs October 7-23.Info: call 612-216-1583 or www.workhousetheatre.org.
