Camden has a new grocery store! The Camden Mart, at 42nd and Fremont, opened its doors to the community on February 14. Partners Eddie Elias and Kevin Aldwaik have completely renovated the former Camden Pharmacy, installing new large windows, floors, refrigeration, lighting and much more. The Camden Mart will be a full service grocery store, which means dairy, produce and meat products along with dry staples, snack food and basic needs. Bakery products and a deli are still on the wish list. Camden Mart prides itself in hiring neighborhood residents, having its signage done locally by Install This Sign, and getting many other supplies and equipment locally. The Camden Mart currently has fresh produce and will be expanding soon to incorporate a small deli as well. The store is open M-F, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sat-Sun 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Info: 612-302-8000. Looking for a new place to eat? Lyndale Avenue N, the river and city gateway, is attracting not one but two new restaurants to add to the current offerings of El Cubano Burrito, Camden Dairy Queen, Camden McDonald’s. The two are a soon to be named restaurant and bar, and the new Northside Steakhouse. The Northside Steakhouse, at 4330 Lyndale Ave. N, has a long list of American food fare from steaks to gyros to burgers, steaks, chicken, catfish, and fish dinner combos, hushpuppies, red beans and rice, fried okra, and potato salad. Prices range from $3.99 for their Chicago Polish Sausage (beef) to their Steak Burger at $5.99. Dinners are moderately priced from $5.99 to $9.29. Owner Bushar Mohamed (pictured) has several other business ventures and is excited to be open on Lyndale. The Northside Steakhouse is open Sun-Thurs 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Fri-Sun 11 a.m-11 p.m. and offers delivery, take-out and catering. For info call 612-529-4546.
