Fremont Barbers is staying open! Former owners Jim Rust and Scott Stroud are happy to welcome new owner Mike Stoffel to carry on the 90-year tradition of providing high quality barbering service to the men of the Northside. This year is Fremont Barbers 90th year in operation — there have only been four owners, three of whom are still working at the shop. Fremont Barbers is located at 4145 Fremont Ave. There is ample parking on Fremont, or in back of the shop. The hours of service are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Haircuts are only $15 and beard trims are $5. Chocolate City Hair Designs, Inc., 2139 44th Ave., is owned by Toni Huggar. Chocolate City originally opened in South Minneapolis in 1991. The salon was closed in 1996 due to relocation and was re-opened in March 2005. A multi-cultural salon specializing in hair loss, Chocolate City also retails hair prosthesis, laser combs and hair for weaving. Together with Dr. Carolyn Kraskey, PH.D (former owner of Central Beauty School), Chocolate City offers braiding certification, refresher courses for nail techs, estheticians, cosmetologists and cosmetology instructor training. The salon hours are Tuesday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday by appointment only. Call 612-521-9275.
