A holiday request for financial support
12/01/2014
I have been associated
with the Camden News since its
inception. First as a reader and admirer of its upbeat outlook, with well
written and thoughtful articles. The paper began publishing in 1975, and next
year, we celebrate our 40 year anniversary.
During the mid-‘90s my
son started delivering the Camden News with his mom. His association with the
paper eventually transformed me into a worker, of the door to door variety. Camden News stopped home hand delivery
around 2000 and began mailing the paper to all the homes in Camden. I accepted
the job of transporting the paper from the printer to the Lowry and Brooklyn
Center Post Offices, and delivering to schools, churches and businesses. In
time, I was asked if I would be interested in becoming a board member, and I
agreed.
The Camden News Board is a serious, engaged
and friendly group of people. The organization is a nonprofit, so we can raise
donations and get revenue from advertisers. The Behind the Victory Flag Pole book sold well and has helped us with
financial stability through the last three years. But the funds just aren’t
coming in to cover expenses. It was brought up at one of our meetings that the
board could assume door to door delivery of the paper again. This would be
quite a saving for this small newspaper – postage is expensive. Unfortunately
the board members lack the time, energy or disposition to accomplish the task.
We are allowed to
request your support. We do it twice a year and appreciate all of you who have
responded in a positive way so many times. Businesses in the area recognize us
as an asset in their ability to promote their products to the public. But they
can’t cover all the costs of publishing this paper.
Fundraising is a
necessary, but not so exciting, activity. We will do everything possible to
continue bringing you a slice of the stories around us. Do we need your
support? Yes.
Happy holidays and a
great new year,
Dan Lynch
Camden Community News Board Chair
