Lowry Avenue Corridor Grand Reopening
11/01/2009
It was an unseasonably cold day for the Harvest Day Celebration on October 10 but Northsiders are hardy folks and came out to celebrate the official opening of the Lowry Corridor. Hennepin County officials held a short program and ribbon cutting, and then folks enjoyed the music, food, arts and entertainment, and kids had a blast at the Kids Zone. The last portion of Lowry Avenue - between Queen Avenue and Theodore Wirth Parkway - reopened in mid-August, two months ahead of schedule. The new corridor has on-street bicycle lanes, wider sidewalks, pedestrian lights, landscaped boulevards and intersection improvements. Reconstruction highlights include: 148,487-square feet of concrete sidewalk poured; 26,411 tons of bituminous paved; 405 trees planted; 151 high- and low-level lights installed; and 37 new fire hydrants installed.
