Okee Dokee Brothers at 8th Annual Riverfest and Heritage Day

The 8th Annual Riverfest and Heritage Day on Saturday, September 15 will be a jam-packed event, filled with outdoor adventures, music, games, crafts, and so much more on the banks of the Mississippi River cohosted by the Lind Bohanon Neighborhood Association and the Three Rivers Park District-Carl Kroening Interpretive Center! The main attractions are at Carl Kroening Interpretive Center, 4900 Mississippi Dr. N, from 1-5 p.m.

Many new attractions for families of all ages have been added to this year’s event to celebrate the river. Gaze into the DNR fish tank, cast a pole and go fishing, bring your own and make your own fish t-shirts!  Bug art on display from Jenny Lind students. We also have pioneer games, wagon rides, and local history displays.

The wildly acclaimed Okee Dokee Brothers will be hitting the Haybale stage at the event from 2-3 p.m. sharing songs of their recent journey down the Mississippi River. USA Today touts the Okee Dokee Brothers as “Authentic bluegrass for your little brother. Best enjoyed with bare feet.” NPR’s All Things Considered say “[The Okee Dokee Brothers] remind us of the American belief that we’re bound for better weather. Their album [Can You Canoe?] celebrates everyday explorers, young and old, who rediscover that notion daily.” And TimeOut NY Kids state the Okee Dokee Brothers are one of the “Top 25 bands for kids! Justin and Joe tap into the essence of friendship, love and relationships with their gorgeous Americana tunes.”

Event goers will be able to meet Jacques the Voyageur, a French fur trader and river voyageur, whose exploratory tales and artifacts of his trading and river journeys will bewilder and enthrall explorers of all ages! Roam amid historic Ojibwa artifacts and hear stories from Mercedes Tuma-Hansen along the forest and river paths.

View maps and ask questions of local historians provided by Mississippi Courts Historical Society, Camden Historical Society and the Brooklyn Historical Society. A shuttle will be leaving from Jenny Lind Parking lot at 51st and Dupont  Ave. N throughout the event. Cost is $5/person, 20 percent off for groups of four or more. Hurry and preregister today by calling 763-694-7694! For info contact 763-561-1616 or check out our website at www.lindbohanon.org.
