A hundred spectators came out to see a car crash on 44th and Penn on August 18. Why were there so many people there? This was no ordinary crash. This one was staged for the filming of a movie - the working name of the film is Prodigal - being produced by the Elk River film company Lost Coin Productions. Police officers closed off all the streets leading to the intersection and the movie crew moved in. We watched as they set up the car, put make-up on the actors, went through several safety meetings, and reset the cameras time after time. And we waited for the big moment.

The movie crew was here to film the scenes leading up to the crash. Movie personnel were very courteous and got permission from most of the neighbors and businesses ahead of time to film here. Finally, at about 11:30 p.m. the crew was ready and the crash was filmed. While not as spectacular as I am sure it will be in the actual movie, it was still a fun night out with my neighbors and friends.
