Toots for Tutu

A peace-building initiative led by Northside youth got the support of world-renowned Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa on April 12. The archbishop and his daughter Naomi Tutu came to the Northside for the nonprofit youthrive’s PeaceJam conference which included a peace parade from North High School to Cub Foods on Broadway. Tutu walked the parade, and also gave an engaging and humorous talk to youth at North High. For youthrive info visit www.unitedwaytwincities.org and click on Caring Connection, or call 2-1-1 or 651-291-0211. Pictured above is Tutu in the Cub parking lot where people crowded around to shake his hand, below is Tutu at North High. Photos by Randy Klauk.
