A winter for the records

I was doing some errands on February 9 and saw a street sweeper coming down my street. It was like seeing your first robin. A sign of spring, but two months earlier than expected. I recently overheard a woman complain that if this continues we will all be on anti-depressants. I guess not everyone likes this abnormally warm winter season. Last winter brought floods; this winter has denied us ground moisture and a promise of a poor crop season. The glass is either half full or half empty. After last winter…just keep throwing this warm stuff my way.
Manufacturing firms have suffered this winter (snowblowers, snowmobiles, etc.). My friend owns an auto body repair shop. His business is suffering. Some of the pluses are my home heating bill just got readjusted and cut in half, fewer traffic accidents and deaths, and more people are taking advantage of this season by getting out to shop, see movies or go to restaurants. Nobody enjoys going out when they’re buried under five feet of snow and it’s very cold. Not all business establishments suffer as a result of this winter. Some do and some don’t.
I’m enjoying every precious minute while it’s here. But keep in mind…we’re not out of the woods yet. We still have the balance of February. March and April can be two of the most unpredictable months for snowfall. I try to remain optimistic and hopeful that we’ll make it to April without any surprises that winter can throw our way.
