Too much trash from Juneteenth
08/01/2010
I live in Brooklyn Center on 53rd Ave. Our entire neighborhood was turned into a huge parking lot for the Juneteenth celebration at North Regional Park in June. We had no warning that this celebration would be taking place blocks away at a location with inadequate parking for attendees. After the crowds cleared my husband filled a huge garbage bag with litter left in our yard by attendees including beer cans, food wrappers and (yuck) dirty diapers. Attendees should at least show common consideration for area residents by not littering in yards.
Juneteenth is a day worth commemorating but it is simply unfair to ask neighborhood residents to bear the burden of clean-up, especially when they are given no notice that this celebration would be taking place in their neighborhood. Our experience certainly doesn't reflect well on the event or event organizers.
