Internet interference with Wi-Fi

Ariah Fine wrote a very well thought out letter in the May Camden News about the Minneapolis Wi-Fi service. I disagree mainly at only one point, the advice Fine received implying that the “cameras (or shot spotters)” might be interfering with Fine’s connection to the Internet.
Such interference between a public emergency service and general consumer access to the Internet should not be allowed and is nearly impossible electrically. I have been assured that the police sensors for gunshot and the city-wide USI Wi-Fi services are on completely different frequencies.
Unfortunately Aria Fine’s complaints about interference and breakdown during connection with the Internet are very real, often experienced and should be considered by those of you hoping to switch to a “free” service, which isn’t all that free. Do you really want to give up your present Internet service provider and opt for an unsecure and slower service?
