No bike lanes on Fremont

People who live on Fremont Ave. from 33rd to Webber Parkway are in danger of losing half of their on-street parking if the City of Minneapolis has its way. The parking on the west side of Fremont would be eliminated to put in bike lanes. A meeting was held on May 27 at North Regional Library to "to discuss potential parking changes on Fremont Avenue N." I attended that meeting and it didn't really feel like we were discussing anything. It felt like the rep from the City was telling us why the City plans to do this and why we should go along with it. As best as I could tell, none of the people who spoke and actually live on Fremont want this to happen.
I don't see people commuting by bicycle up and down Fremont, if for no other reason than many people don't want to bike up that hill. Also, there are safety concerns when putting bikes on a major bus route. There are bike lanes on N. 2nd St., 42nd and 26th Avenues and bike trails on the parkway so I don't think we need them on Fremont. If you live on Fremont, share your thoughts with Shaun Murphy at 612-333-2450 shaun.murpy@ci.minneapolis.mn.us or with our City Councilmember Barb Johnson at 612-673-2204.
