Miss Sparkles’ big adventure
By: Sheryl Senkiw 08/01/2009
Miss Sparkles is my fluffy black and white cat. She is generally an indoor cat, and very sweet and shy. She was past due for her summer hair cut, which we get done very short, so she doesn't get her fluffy fur all matted.
I put Miss Sparkles in a pet carrier and drove to Kim's Dog Kair (1401 44th Ave. N 612-385-1434) with my 14-month-old son. As we walked from the street where we parked, I could feel the carrier starting to break. I could not figure out how to hang on to my son and the breaking carrier, and there was no one around to ask for help. I tried pushing the carrier down the sidewalk with my foot, but that was not working. I lifted it to try again, and the bottom broke off the carrier, and Miss Sparkes ran into the street. I ran with my son to Kim's Dog Kair, and she held my son while I tried frantically to find the cat. A voice from a nearby apartment told me, "She's under the car." Of course the cat would not come to me, so I tried pushing her out from under the car with a broom. She then proceeded to run up the tallest tree she could find, and one with no lower branches for me to climb even if I wasn't afraid of heights.
Miss Sparkles had never climbed a tree before, and I had no clue how to get her down. Fortunately, the owner of Kim's Dog Kair called Camden Pet Hospital (1405 44th Ave. N.), 612-522-4374, and two gals who work there came out with a very tall ladder, climbed up and brought her down. Hooray!
Miss Sparkles ended up getting a great hair cut at Kim's Dog Kair, and Kim is very gentle and good with animals (and toddlers). I highly recommend her service, but check to see your carrier is put together right before you go.
