No government funding here
By: John Bispala 04/01/2006
The Camden Community News (CCN) does not receive any pork barrel government funds. We exist completely on the generosity from advertisers and readers who care about Camden. In the beginning, some 30 years ago, CCN received one grant from the City of Minneapolis to get the paper started, and that was the last and only such funding.
The Camden News is a non-profit organization; I am strictly a volunteer, and none of us board members receive any salary for it. The only salary paid is to the editor, and we contract for services such as typesetting, printing and delivery.
I say this to set the record straight because the public news media have recently reported on various non-profit institutions receiving government funding and having highly paid CEO’s etc. This is not the case with your paper, the Camden Community News. Instead, each month’s issue presents a funding dilemma, and we would give you many more interesting articles and information in 16 pages rather than 12, if we could afford it. In the meantime we will do our best to efficiently present you, our readers and advertisers, with the monthly news relevant to the Camden area.
