Partisan bickering

The shrill partisan screaming has started, which means the political season is here again. In a scene all too familiar to this Folwell resident, the special interests are agitating, statewide candidates are spending money as if it is going out of style, and regular citizens are being ignored. It is enough to keep a person home on Election Day. If 2006 is like most election years, Northsiders will do just that.
Special interests are hard at work raising an unprecedented amount of money to influence these elections and partisan activists are investing huge sums of money to ensure that their party comes out on top this November.
As a result, we can look forward to another election cycle filled with attack ads. The groups that hold the most extreme, out of touch positions are the very groups who shout the loudest. I find this discouraging and know North Minneapolis citizens want elected officials who can set aside their partisan bickering, get the job done and listen to regular citizens like you and me.
We can send a message to the parties and special interest groups this November by voting for legislators willing to do a little extra with regular citizens. I’m willing to do the work so that North Minneapolis citizens have someone to represent them. The special interests already have great representation.
So after you hear that next attack ad and think, “Maybe I’ll just stay home this year,” think again. Think about the independent candidates at the bottom of the ballot. They need you to come and vote for them. They will listen to you, and they will work hard to make Minnesota a better place.
