Pet owners, take care
By: Lorna Anderson 01/01/2007
Pets are wonderful and rewarding, but can often be expensive and problematic. They can easily be neglected, sometimes are predatory to other animals/wildlife, and often forced to live in confining cages.
A couple suggestions to pet owners: Only have pets that can run or fly freely in your home, and are leashed or carefully watched when outside. And ethylene glycol, the main ingredient in most antifreeze, has an inviting aroma and sweet flavor and is very tempting to domestic and wild animals — and can be fatal to them. All brands of antifreeze should be handled very carefully. Store it well away from animals and children, and clean up spills or leaks immediately. It only takes a teaspoon-full to kill an animal.
