Pleasant surprise eating

I had some banking to do and drove up Lyndale where I noticed the Top Diner at 43rd. I used to go to the old Top Diner, but this was new to me. So I stopped. What a bright, spic and span restaurant — and I was treated warmly. My Dad had a restaurant on West Broadway when I was young, and this new Top Diner reminded me of his very friendly, super clean place where he always greeted customers as they came in.

The food is home-made, delicious, with large portions and affordable. I did walk around after I ordered a BLT (which came with a big bowl of home-made soup). The restrooms and kitchen were spotless.

There was also a buffet table and the staff told me that on Thursdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon they serve a buffet. I hope to take the gals that retired with me to hit the buffet (for only $6.95). The restaurant opens early and closes at 3 p.m.

Let’s show them that we can support a good restaurant here on the Northside where we can sit and enjoy good food, good friends and friendly atmosphere. My Dad would have loved this new place!
