There oughta be a law

From June to September, the neighborhood has the ‘privilege’ of listening to fireworks all night long. Thank you, former governor. Some people have to get up to go to work in the morning, and would appreciate a good night’s rest. When is our City Council going to exercise some common sense and pass an ordinance that actually is fair to both sides: those who like to shoot off fireworks and those who have to listen to them?
Let’s have a 10 p.m. curfew on the shooting off of fireworks. Having worked in local government for many years, I realize that ordinances mean absolutely nothing without consequences that are enforced. Let’s put some ‘meat’ into this fireworks ordinance. First time offenders get a written warning; second offenders get $100 fine and confiscation of all their fireworks; third time offenders get a double fine of $200 and so on.
