Tribute to Denny Carlisle
By: Mike Fahey 09/01/2008
On Sunday, July 6 the Northside lost one of its true icons in the passing of Dennis Carlisle. His wife, Margie, of 48 years, was at his side when he died at North Memorial Hospital. Denny's wish was to die at home and thanks to Margie, who uncomplainingly and tirelessly took care of him for 12 years, he did just that.
The Carlisles lived at their home on Osseo Road since their marriage in 1960. They have many friends and were devoted to St. Austin's Church. Their two daughters, Theresa and Mary Margaret, attended school there. St. Austin's Church owes much of its landscaping to Denny's generosity. Many sidewalks, retaining walls and soddings are footprints Denny left behind.
Denny loved politics and was on a first-name basis with many of the locals. He held court in his garage in his famous chair at the entrance.
To all of the great neighbors (near and far) who have helped Denny and Margie with visits and great food, I say thank you. If you drive by, say "hello" to Marge and keep an eye on her for Denny. As her brother, I'll be comforted knowing you'll be there for her.
