Vote “no” to Vote Yes

Minnesotans across the state should join together and vote no on the MN Vehicle Sales Tax Constitutional Amendment. It leaves a hole of $300 million in the general fund that pays for education, health care and property tax relief. It proposes no way to fill the hole it creates.

There are other, more intelligent solutions to improving our roadways. Innovation in renewable fuels, investment in mass transit are two. But one often unmentioned option is for each of us to use our vehicles less. To carpool with neighbors. To carpool with our own family members — how often have you met your significant other at a baseball game in two cars? If we don’t have an intelligent solution, we must adjust our habits until we find another way.

Today, more than half of the state’s general fund goes to education— early childhood, K-12 and higher education. This amendment puts our students’ education at high risk! Twenty-five percent of the general fund pays for health care and human Services, and 10 percent of the budget goes to property tax relief.

Voting “no” on the constitutional amendment protects our schools, helps to maintain access to health care and prevents further property tax increases due to cuts to the general fund. Be intelligent Minnesota. Vote “no” on the MN Vehicle Sales Tax Constitutional Amendment.
